How much do you know about your skin? Do you know that you are protected by a marvellous organ that deserves all your care? Today we're revealing more than one, two and three... skincare facts. so that you can get to know and care for it better.
You probably already know that the skin is the largest organ in your body. Perhaps you know that it is made up of three layers (epidermis, dermis and subcutaneous tissue). You probably learned in high school that its colour depends on melanin concentrations and... what else?
Do you want to discover other curious aspects of it? Read on to find out more about the SKIN CARE we share today ;-)
Little-known aspects of skin and skin care
- The 16% of your body weight corresponds to the skin. In an adult woman it measures about two square metres. Think of the skin as a colossal organ.
- Your skin can contain up to 182 different species of bacteria. The variety depends on your environment, your hygiene habits - we already know that soap and water control the bacterial fauna - and pH.
- In every area of your body, the skin has a different thickness. The thinnest skin is on the eyelids (0.5 millimetres) while the thickest skin is on the palms of the hands and soles of the feet (4 millimetres).
- Every part of your skin has a different sensory sensitivity. The area with the most nerve endings is at the fingertips. One square centimetre of a fingertip has 60 points of sensitivity.

- The skin has five types of sensory receptors: Meissner's corpuscles, Pacini's corpuscles, Ruffini's corpuscles, Merkel's receptors and Krause's corpuscles. They are activated by light contact, vibrations, mechanical pressure and temperature changes. They are responsible for our enjoyment of the delicate touch of silk or our preference for warm water in the shower. How much pleasure these receptors give us, don't they?
- There are 10 foods you can use to keep your skin radiant and these are almonds, Brazil nuts, peaches, chickpeas, green tea, citrus fruits, salmon and avocado.
- The skin has the function of serving as a permeable barrier. It lets sweat and toxins escape and at the same time protects the internal organs. Under normal conditions, you can lose up to 3 litres of sweat through perspiration on a hot and hectic day. For this reason it is vital to stay hydrated and drink enough water.
- The best adjective to describe its regenerative capacity is 'Olympic'. About 50,000 dead skin cells fall off the skin every minute. This process of spontaneous desquamation allows for continuous renewal. Should natural exfoliation be supported? Yes, in Soivre you have exfoliating gels to choose from. It doesn't matter what type of skin you have. You can always exfoliate, you just need to find the right product that will be more gentle or aggressive depending on the characteristics of your skin (dry, oily, mature...).

- The light skins tend to have more wrinkles because by nature they tend to contain less collagen and elastin than darker skins.
- Almost all the skin on the body sweats, except at the margins of the lips and the skin under the nails. Sweating is a mechanism for controlling body temperature. To stop sweating, drink cold water.
- Fingerprints increase friction and help to grip objects. In this regard, as a skin curiosity, it is worth noting that some people do not have fingerprints. It usually appears in people with rare diseases such as Naegeli syndrome and dermatopathy pigmentosa reticularis.
- We shed our skin completely every 25 to 30 days. So the woman you were last month, at least in the skin, is not the same now. It is worth remembering this to let go of ideas and judgements from the past that no longer serve us and make room for the new.
If you've made it this far, here's a simple and kind gesture to take care of your skin: drink a glass of water.
