What is the composition of argan oil?
The properties of argan oil are given by its exceptional composition rich in antioxidant oils.
In 100 grams of pure argan oil 100% you have a
- 45 % of oleic acidOleic acid, a vegetable oil from the Omega 9 series that is also found in olive oil (70 %), avocado (60 %) and grape seeds (15 %). Oleic acid is one of those noble oils that take care of you by increasing good cholesterol and taking care of your cardiovascular system. According to recent research data from the Institute of Neurosciences of Castilla y León (INCYL), it also benefits the growth of neuron axons and therefore prevents and slows down the wear and tear of neurovegetative diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and sclerosis.
- 35 % of linoleic acidan oil from the Omega 6 series. Commercially, conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) is included in many foods for its antioxidant properties; that is, it reduces the free radicals responsible for ageing. It also lowers triglycerides and bad cholesterol. Supplements of this oil are available to help with weight loss and insulin control.
- 300 mg of caroteneCarotene, an element present in carrots, pumpkin and courgette. Carotenes are precursors of Vitamin A. This essential vitamin preserves all the specialised tissues of the organism such as the retinas, the mucous membranes of the mouth, the genitals and also has antioxidant properties.
- 160 mg of sterolswhich influence fat metabolism and also reduce bad cholesterol, the kind that weakens our hearts with heart disease and affects blood circulation. Scientists have discovered a specific phytosterol called beta sitosterol that prevents hair loss.
- 150 mg of terpenic alcoholswhich are antioxidants and also give it that characteristic, subtle smell. If it doesn't smell like anything, it is probably mixed with other oils.
- 62 mg of tocopherolsand this amount is three times what you can find in olive oil. Especially the tocopherol that you find in argan oil is Vitamin E. An antioxidant that does a lot of good to the hair cuticle giving it shine and repairing its imperfections.
- 5.6 mg of polyphenolsother extraordinary compounds with antioxidant properties.
These are just some of its essential components. Now if you want to know about the origins of the use of argan oil, then read on ;-)
A glimpse into the origins of argan oil
Argan oil is extracted from the seeds of the argan tree (Argania spinosa). This shrub, which only grows in southern Morocco - as already mentioned - and in semi-desert areas of Algeria, is living proof of the power of nature, a kind of distant witness to the history of the world.
The little water it receives through its roots allows it to grow up to 10 metres high and live up to 250 years.
Once a year, in the months of May and June, the argan tree bears its precious fruit. which are slightly larger than an olive. The inner nut is very hard and is composed of three seeds that concentrate large volumes of the fatty acids that you have seen in its composition.
The process of obtaining pure argan oil is a synthesis of artisanal practices and rigour in its handling so that the product is of the highest quality.
For every 100 kilos of ripe fruit, only 1 litre of argan oil is obtained. In the production of the cosmetic oil, the nuts are not roasted, but only cold-pressed to maintain their properties. This process results in a liquid with a delicate yellow/amber colour and a characteristic odour. Each gram of argan oil is extracted by hand.
Now that you know the value of argan oil and our products Soivre Cosmetics hair care products that include it's up to you to make you look healthier, stronger and shinier hair.
