Do you know the argan oilDo you know its applications? Enjoy a natural product with hundreds of years of history that prevents the ageing of your skin.

Origin of argan oil

The argan tree is endemic to a semi-desert area between Morocco and Algeria. This plant can grow up to 10 metres high, with a life expectancy of more than 150 years. The value of this species lies in its fruit, which takes a year to ripen. The fruit is 2-3 cm long and 2 cm wide, with a thick skin and containing seeds rich in the oil that gives it its name.

Argan oil is the basis of Berber culture. For centuries, the Berbers have used it both as food and as a cosmetic for the skin and hair. With the skin it works perfectly against wrinkles, dryness, acne and chicken pox, irritations, burns, eczema or psoriasis, among many other applications. For hair, it restores shine and nourishes it. It can also be used to harden nails and for body massages.

The incredible cosmetic properties and the high commercial value of argan oil have served to protect this species, as the area it historically occupied had been reduced by more than 50% in the last 100 years. In 1998, Unesco declared the Souss region, where the argan tree grows, a Biosphere Reserve.

Modern cosmetics have found argan oil to be a totally natural and effective product for countless skin and hair treatments.

Argan oil for the skin

The moisturising, softening and regenerating properties argan oil offers us makes it an ideal alternative to traditional cosmetics in terms of skin treatment. Currently, in this line, the most common use given to it is for application to the face.

Argan oil can be applied directly or combined with other products that we usually use. We can also find cosmetics that include it directly in their composition.

If we apply it directly or combined with another cosmeticIf it is applied directly, just a few drops are enough. If you apply it directly, put a few drops on your fingers and massage your face with a gentle, circular massage, starting with your chin and working your way down to your cheeks. The same operation should be carried out on the forehead, starting in the central area and working outwards. Avoid the eye contour area.

This treatment can be finished when the skin has absorbed all the argan oil. If you have acne spots, put a drop on each spot and tap it with your finger until the oil is absorbed.

If you have dry skin, take advantage of this and combine argan oil with your usual face cream. Mix a few drops of this oil with your cream and you will get a much more nourishing and moisturising product.

If you are constant with this treatment, the results will eventually be evident, achieving a smooth and moisturised skin, ready to prevent premature ageing.

Argan oil for hair

After the skin on our face, hair is another area where the cosmetic action of argan oil is especially valued. With its application we will obtain much softer and silkier hair, eliminating frizz and allowing us to smooth our hair from the roots to the ends. Whether your hair is straight or curly, dry or greasy, argan oil will give you incredible results.

However, in the case of hair, the application of argan oil will require extra dedication. By doing this operation a couple of times a week, we will achieve moisturised, soft, resistant hair with strengthened ends and roots.

Here are the three steps you need to follow to apply it correctly to your hair:

- Apply the argan oil until it penetrates the hair. Pay special attention to the scalp, roots and ends. Massage for a long time. Avoid using too much oil. The hair should not be greasy.

- Wrap the head with a warm, damp towel and let the argan oil work for at least 30 minutes.

- Remove the towel and comb through before washing with water and a normal shampoo. Apply a conditioner and you will notice the effects clearly.
