As the years go by, wrinkles appear on your skin: they are the traces of your experiences, the memories of days won and lost, the moments shared with your family and friends... Your silences, your screams, your fears, your triumphs and laughter in spite of everything. Your wrinkles are beautiful and we could write a poem about them, but we sense that you would like to know the physiological mechanisms behind these blessed marks in order to fight them better.
What is the biological reason for wrinkles? What exactly causes our skin to age? Wrinkles arise naturally due to various factors. We can influence some of these factors and not others, so we can say that it is only partially possible to combat them.
The wrinkles and other visible lines on our face and other parts of the body arise as a result of gravity, of mimic gestures that we repeat and of the passage of time that modifies all systems. It reduces the amount of collagen and elastin produced by the body and these proteins provide firmness, support and hydration to the skin.
The process of wrinkling
At SOIVRE we explain in more detail how and why wrinkles appear on the skin:
In the epidermis - the outermost layer cell renewal processes are slowed down. Waste accumulates inside each cell, preventing it from performing its functions properly. The cells of the epidermis lose their ability to retain water, and as the reactions take place in an aqueous environment, it is difficult for the cells to be shed and new ones to appear.
Over the years in the dermis - the middle layer - fibroblasts make the collagen fibres that maintain firmness and hydration. This The middle layer thins, loses blood vessels and the colour of the skin changes from pink to yellowish. On the other hand, lack of exercise reduces muscle tone -As we mature, we tend to become more sedentary, and the skin hangs and folds due to the absence of support.
We can slow down this intrinsic ageing or these biological signs of the passage of time. Alternatives such as the ones I discuss below are at your fingertips.

Wrinkle promoters
In addition to the ageing process which is natural and intrinsic, there are other aspects that trigger the appearance of wrinkles prematurely are not directly related to biological age, but rather to our lifestyle and our habits in general.
Triggers for wrinkles are:
- Excessive and repeated exposure to the sun's rays
- Staying in very dry spaces
- Tobacco and/or alcohol consumption
- Stress
- Fatigue
- Some metabolic diseases
- Some endocrine diseases
Some of these elements are controllable and we show you how to do it.
How to avoid wrinkles?
- Protect your skin from the sun. Whether you are going to the beach, to work, hiking in the mountains or any activity where you are directly exposed to the sun. On long days in the sun, it is also advisable to wear clothes with sleeves that cover you a little. And one last recommendation: always check which protection factor is the most suitable for your skin type.
- If you are a smoker we remind you that this habit adds at least 5 years to the age of your skin. So, assess whether smoking is worth it and also bear in mind that smoking affects not only your skin but your whole body.
- Avoid repetition of certain facial gestures. except for the smile. In fact, with every facial movement, certain muscles contract and the generate micro-grooves in the epidermis. If you repeat a gesture for years your muscles develop and the skin over it creates permanent lines over the muscle irregularities.
- Wear sunglasses to avoid wrinkling between the eyebrows. This area tends to wrinkle quickly due to the repeated gesture we make when avoid the sun to get a better view.
- Your food is the messenger of youthso watch your diet. Eat in a balanced way the best quality products that your economy allows.. You are what you eat. Scientists agree that a diet rich in fruit and vegetables prevents premature skin ageing. If you are not sure which diet is best for you, seek the help of a nutritionist.

- Drink less alcoholespecially those with a high alcohol content. Alcohol tends to dehydrate the skin and make it look dull.. A glass of wine once in a while doesn't hurt, so you can still enjoy it.
- 45 minutes to an hour of moderate exercise each day are essential to maintain healthier skin. Exercise increases blood circulation. The skin is oxygenated and the immune system is strengthened.. You can vary your activities as you like: yoga, brisk walking, running, cycling, swimming....
- Cleanse your skin frequently and with kind products. It is important to cleanse the pores of all the pollution we are exposed to.
- Moisturise your face with micellar water and moisturising creams even if your skin doesn't feel dry. Sweat irritates the skin, so as soon as you sweat, splash water on your face or sweaty body part. You don't always need to use soap, especially if it has a formulation that tends to dry out.
